Good morning, Naples. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 8th of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City leaders plan to demolish the damaged Naples Pier—hit by Hurricane Ian and later storms—and rebuild it as soon as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues the permit, using more than $12.6 million in FEMA funds as part of a $26 million project. Demolition will take six months and construction of the new, resilient pier will last 18 months.  Naples Daily News
  • PawsFest will be held Saturday at Baker Park where local pet owners can bring leashed dogs to receive free services—such as microchipping, nail trims and a pup cup—and enjoy food trucks and coffee while rescue groups show animals for adoption. Event organizer Kate Mindak from Naples Police Patrol Operations said the event will highlight the department’s K—9s and promote foster programs to help crowded shelters.  WGCU
  • Ave Maria earned top honors at the 2025 Sand Dollar Awards from the Collier Building Industry Association—winning awards for Community of the Year under $500K, Best Overall Campaign, and Best Special Event for its Shamrock Festival. The win shows the community’s strength and growth—it sets the stage for future events like the 2026 Shamrock Festival on March 14 from noon to 5:00 p.m.  Florida Weekly
